It’s almost summer which means it’s close to spending time outside again soaking up the sun. Spring is the best time to renovate your balcony, its warm enough to do it and it’s right when balcony and patio furniture go on sale at stores. So today we’ll be giving you some tips on what you could add to your balcony to help give it a brand new look. Keep in mind the weather in your area, the size and dimensions of your balcony, and whether or not you’re allowed to have certain items on your balcony (this could happen depending on your rental agreement from your landlord). Enjoy!
Matching Lounge Chairs
Whether it’s lounge chairs or dining chairs, you absolutely need somewhere comfy to sit when you’re on the balcony.. and size does matter when it comes to this. Small balconies can be cozied up with lamb skins on Acapulco Chairs. These chairs named after the famous resort from the ’50s, the Pacific resort Acapulco in Mexico. Or if your balcony is still too small for that, then a wood stepping stool. Have a large space? Then a larger lounger with throw blankets and pillows to make them comfortable and looking great or a wood bench painted in your favorite color. Depending on how large your balcony is, you may be able to fit a sofa for additional comfort. There are even tutorials online on how to make an outdoor sofa completely out of pallets. should be a solution to any balcony!
Wanting to eat lunch on the balcony? How about a glass of wine? Well, you’ll definitely need a table for that! I personally would recommend a table that matches or at least complements the chairs. You’ll often find matching sets for affordable prices at stores and second-hand.
Maybe a water feature?
Water features are so wonderful to have. They give a whole new dimension to your space and the sound of trickling water gives rise to the imagination and even makes it feel cooler! There are so many styles from large to tiny ones that can fit onto a table, even a wall.
Parasols are great for keeping out the sunshine, but they can also really help make a statement to your space. Be sure to check how wide the parasol goes so there aren’t any conflicts with space on the balcony.
You absolutely should have some plants on the balcony! Terra cotta pots and flower boxes are both great ways to show off your plants in style.
Hanging pots are another excellent way to show off what you got! Ferns and begonias are two excellent plants are looking marvelous when hung by pots.
Our Instant E-Design for Placement and Inspiration
We actually have a new Instant E-Design Plan that takes away all the stress of research and the cost of an interior designer. Whether you have a balcony or deck, our plan is great for both! It gives you the option to purchase everything from Ikea with the shopping list. You don’t need to buy everything, but simply purchase what you want from the plan or just use it as inspiration for how you’d like your balcony or deck to be. For more information about it, please see the full listing.
A rug really adds a nice touch to the floor. I know some balcony flooring is just concrete, so adding a rug will really add a lot of colors while taking away the cold look concrete gives. There are also some great outdoor rugs from IKEA that are perfect for small budgets and my favorite would have to be a Jute rug.
This is similar to having a pot or flower box, a planter will help you display the pot/ plant. Planters can also help with leveling the plants a bit about the ground so they can get more attention in the space. Planters are still very much in style, so you can find them in home decor stores, gardening shops, or even second-hand.
Outdoor Cushions or Pillows
Whether you have a sofa, lounge chair, or outdoor dining chairs there’s a very high chance you’re going to need a comfy cushion. Outdoor cushions really come in a variety of styles, shapes, colors, and sizes. I personally like for my cushions to match the color of the parasol.
Lots of Plants
There are so many plants that you can choose from! I absolutely love having flowers outside in my balcony, it adds so much color plus it’s great for the insects. When selecting plants, be sure to how much light the plants can tolerate, how much light hits your balcony, and whether or not your plant can withstand high temperatures. If you need help selecting the right plants, we offer a service just for that!
