Hit thrift stores for well-made furnishings
Thrift shopping isn’t just for buying second-hand clothing. Usually, there are plenty of furnishings too, from dishes, accessories/ knick-knacks, curtains, all the way up to furniture itself. What’s great about thrift shops is how environmentally friendly there are, you don’t have to worry about causing an environmental impact when you’re purchasing second-hand. What a lot of people like to do is restore old furniture and make it into something new, it’s like getting an entirely new piece of furniture all on a budget that’s personalized to you.
Know what you’re willing to compromise on
Think about what your budget should be, how far above your budget you’re willing to go. Think of things you absolutely want to spend more on. Also, compromise with what you’re willing to give up on or do without. Also, decide what would be cheaper versus practical. When decorating on a budget, there will always need to be some sort of compromise, especially if you’re not the only one living in the space.

A good example would be the style board that you see above, plenty of these items can be found at a thrift store, or even completely restore or repurpose an item to get a similar look. To buy these, yes, is expensive. But second hand, you have some huge savings. Similar vases could easily be found at a thrift shop, but it’s also easy to get a vase and paint it. There are plenty of tutorials on Youtube on how to transform accessories into something new. Our style boards also some with flooring plans too.
So when on a budget, our E-Plans are a great option!
Choose quality over quantity
Top-quality pieces are more important than having multiple items, it’s better to have one durable long-lasting piece of furniture rather than having several cheap pieces of furniture that could easily break. Try to get pieces of furniture that are built more to last rather than something cheap that looks like it would last less than a year.
Use what you have, discover new uses
One of the best ways to help save the planet, be sustainable, and stay on a budget would be to repurpose old items and use them for something else. This is apart of recycling. A great example would be the picture above, the green jar use to be a candle jar but now it’s been repurposed into a toothbrush holder.
